Everything Sewing :: View topic – Set up your machine

Get out your manual, and check the suggested stitches for applique. You will need some scraps of fabric to practice on. Make your scraps, just as you will your actaul applique pieces, back them with interfacing, and use your stabilizer underneath. You want your stitches close together called satin stitch, if they are to far apart little spots of fabric will show through and possibly ravel, to close together and your stitches will bunch under the pressure foot. The stitches will fall on the applique, just one stitch going into the back ground fabric. Look at your stiches on both sides and adjust your tension. When you get a nice smooth stitch. write down the settings you used, along with what thread you were using and the size of the needle. what might be nice and helpful is, post the make of your machine and the stitch length and width that worked for you. It might make a nice starting point for others_________________
