The first picture is a gal learning a new smocking stitch ( cretan). she is a right handed smocker.the seond picture is a gal learning the same stitch, but she is a left handed smocker.

This gives you some idea of how different we hold our thread and our smocking.

Thanks so much for the pictures. Spoke to my friend, shes wanting to learn, and this will show her that it is indeed possible. Thank you for taking the time (and camera) for me! Karen

My daughter is left-handed and when she was in the 3rd grade, I taught her how to smock and I had to teach her to smock from right to left, where us right-handers always smock from left to right. So those who are lefties, just need to work their smocking plates following the graph, but just do their rows starting from the right and work the end of the row at the left. Hope that makes sense and helps those lefties who need assistance.

This is totally off-topic, but your leftie friend has cute jewelry and specs.

Is’nt that a pretty bracelet ? It swarovski crystal and you should see it for real. I should point out (again off the subject) the little knit hats laying in front of her. The hospital sent those over to give us the size we need for premmie bonnets. Now, just need to get some pleated and smocked.

I’m a leftie and learned how to smock from watching a right handed person smock. They forgot to tell me it was hard, so I didn’t think it was hard to learn from a right handed person. I smock upside down. Keep in mind, I still stink at picture smocking!
