Everything Sewing :: View topic – Lesson two

This is such a quick and easy project. You are probably all done with it by now. When you have your smocking all done. it is time to sew the dress together. For little ones,I do not cut an armhole, after all little ones are straight up and down. Sew up the side seam, leaving about 6″ down from the top open. How you finish the seam is up to you, this dress is going to see lots of time in the sand box,so I serged the side seams. Now,remove the pleating thread form the smocking area. Sew a double hem,by turning a 1/8″ and turning again. Stitch, heming the edges that you left open. Changes I made on this dress– I cut my ties on the bias. I cut them 16″ long and 1 1/2″ wide. Fold in half, sew across the bottom and up the sides, turn and press. The smaller ties, seem to stay tied better. I also cut a stay for the front and back. I cut two stays 91/2″x2″. Hemmed all four sides 1/4″. Hand tacked it to the top, slipping the ties in. Now,hem the sundress and you are all done. Nonie_________________
