I ran a search but didn’t find anything specificly answering my question. I am a beginner-to-intermediate sewer, and I am making my daughter’s bridal veil. I have the tulle and 7/8″ ivory ribbon. She wants a fairly thick looking edge, so I thought if I folded over the 7/8″ ribbon, and sewed it over the edge of the tulle, that’s the look she wants. Does anyone have any tips on attaching the ribbon: I have a good sewing machine (not a specialized embroidery machine or anything that fancy) – but I am wondering whether to machine stitch the ribbon on or hand-sew it on (which could take forever). I am planning to pin it in place first (whichever method I choose), but am worried about it bunching up or drawing up if I try to machine stitch it – I’m afraid it won’t lie flat when I’m done – and what stich to use? straight or zig zag, and stitch width? Of course, I’ve rounded the corners, and that will make it more difficult to stitch on smoothly, I’m afraid.
Any how-to advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
