and
to the forum. Yes, it’s a standard thing for machines made today to have seam allowances markings on the throat plate. However, the 1/4″ is not always included, or are they always accurate. It’s best to test it. The way I set my machine for an accurate 1/4″ seam, is to use the little 6″ hemming ruler, lower my needle, slip the ruler right up to the needle and mark the 1/4″ spot and lay painter’s tape from the needle to about 3″ toward me. It’s always nice to be able to see where the fabric is going before it actually hits the needle. Unless you are stipple quilting, in which case, it is advised to watch the needle. The reason I only only painter’s tape (it’s blue and available at any hardware dept) is that it leaves no sticky residue, even if it’s left on for quit some time. I think you bought yourself a good deal. It’s a metal frame machine which usually indicate it’s strong. You did notice it’s a *reconditioned* machine, didn’t you? It’s been used, then gone over with a “fine tooth comb” and will probably run just fine with their 25-yr warranty.
I’m sure other’s more informed than I will come along with their opinions. Listen well, these ladies here, know whereof they speak. ![]()
