everything sewing/how to/continous placket

Step Four: Stitch using 1/4″ seam (the width of your pressure foot). The placket will be straight, the skirt will form a V. As you stitch the 1/4″ seam, you will just catch the tip of the bottom point of the placket slit.

Just a little something that appeared in my feeble brain out of nowhere. The “outline” is applique. Make it smancy fancy with velvet or cute country with a cotton print. Hope everyone enjoys it. If anyone needs and can’t convert files let me know. This file is .pes

Seams and Pleaters
by Betty

My preference is tiny French seams for bishop sleeves, but any type of seam will slide through the pleater with ease.

This is shown from the back of the pleater: Slip the seam into a grove of the pleater with a screwdriver or a finger nail, etc. The seam will not hit a needle , nor will it show from the top side.

Sewing Tip: Mini Cording

Tip by Betty

Cut bias 1 1/2″ wide (trim to seam width AFTER covering), I use J P Coat’s “Speed-Cro-Sheen” crochet thread, and the 5 groove pintuck foot to make mini cording. This foot makes covering the cord a breeze.

I measure and mark the width of finished yoke on the covered cording, allowing extra on each end to hold on to. Using the same pintuck foot, I attach the cording to the inset first so I can place it just right, then I add the yoke, still using the same foot. There are other ways to accomplish the same thing, try them all and use the one that you are most comfortable with.

everything sewing/tips/fabric pleating tip

Sewing Tip: Pleating Fabric

by Nonie

Each pattern is designed for a specific weight fabric. Many patterns meant for smocking recommend using light weight fabric.

If your pattern
suggests a light weight fabric but you want to use a heavier one,you must reduce the fullness.

You can see how each different weight fabric takes up a different amount of fabric.

everything sewing/tip/casing for elastic

1. Make a buttonhole in the casing allowance for pants with elastic before turning under.

2. Stitch the casing down. I like a small heading for elastic, I think it keeps it from twisting etc.

3. Thread elastic through the buttonhole, finish as usual. The buttonhole makes it easy to change elastic without opening any seams etc. It also marks the pants “back”.
