Sweatshirt Insert - How To

Step One:

I copy my pattern, I place the insert 1/2" below the armhole, then add 3/8" for a seam allowance. This way I don't have to replan with every sweatshirt. Then I make a pattern of the bottom section and add 3/8" seam allowance.

Step Two:

Add piping to your top piece.

Step Three:

Center insert and measure amount you will need on both sides for wings. I need four inches on each side plus seam allowance, so I will cut my wings six inches, I can always trim later.

Step Four:

Stich extensions to insert.

Stitch smocked insert to yoke(sweatshirt top)

Step Five:

Stitch piping to bottom section and then sew the bottom section to the insert.
